Australian architect and paper artist Horst Kiechle recently constructed thisgeometric paper torso complete with modular organs including lungs, intestines, kidneys, pancreas, stomach and more. The piece was made for the Science Lab of the International School Nadi, Fiji. You should also check out some of his archisculptures. (via my modern met)

Still reeling from the brilliance of Martin Freeman’s performance in last night’s Sherlock finale, we woke this morning to be greeted by a new image of the star as The Hobbit’s Bilbo Baggins. And this time, he looks like he means business.

  The new snap shows Bilbo clutching Sting, the magical blade that glows blue when orcs are in the area. Fortunately for him, the blade isn’t getting its glow on, although judging by the cave-like surroundings, it won’t be long before Bilbo is joined by another kind of antagonist…

Shomei Tomatsu: 11:02 Nagasaki

In his career as a photographer, Shomei Tomatsu has shot many powerful images, documenting post-war Japan. One of his most famous series of photographs was a selection of photos he shot of Nagasaki following the bombing. He charted not only the still present damage to the city itself but through dramatic black and white photographs the scars on the human victims of the bomb.
